Disney 16-Bit Classics Are Back!
Well! With major early focus towards DisneyInfinity, and releasing its PC games on Steampowered.com and various other channels, Disney has principally quitted games publishing under its own companies. However, there is an ongoing revival of arcade games on latest tech canvas featuring Disney. Disney has closed game publisher LucasArt in recent past.
I think I have guessed what Disney might be doing at this time is not dumb at all. Since all the adult following had more interest in return of classic figures (just like Pixar, Marvel Studios etc. and their audience showing love towards character rebirths and returns) and despite expansion packages for their latest games, Disney was always facing threat and protecting against Copyright issues under the banner of Riot Games or any other game development partners. One of them is Gog.com. The site has since released over two dozen classic Disney games for modern play, though it’s hard to beat the titles being released today in terms of name recognition.
Lion King, and The Jungle Book are gems from the past and GOG.com’s set a partnership with Disney, a relationship that began with the release of six Lucasfilm-affiliated games in October 2014.
I always enjoyed playing Aladdin, The Lion King and The Jungle Book.If you want to experience that kind of powerful nostalgia, in spite of using emulators which can hardly run these 16-bit or 32-bit in full effect, the games are ready and waiting on GOG’s website. According to a press release, “all three titles have been meticulously updated to be compatible with modern operating systems while preserving the original graphics, sound, and gameplay.”
