Company culture isn’t about the ping-pong tables and ice cream socials. It’s about what happens when people come together and how they interact, solve problems, work, play and so on. You have to be able to to meld a culture based on values of connection, collaboration, and creativity. It’s magical when that happens! People want connection and the feeling to belong and you gave them a wonderful platform of a view, conversation, and coffee. You can learn a lot from random coffee meetings…great for problem solving, connections, etc. It takes a team to deliver something great!

Culture isn’t just the values you sprout but should be part of the people movement that as you point out, identifies you from your competitors and cultural fit is very often the chemistry that makes or breaks a good work place. You have to have the pillars in place first - strategy and purpose people get and care about, effective values and consistent leadership etc. and then this stuff becomes really powerful. We call it an organisation’s “secret sauce”. A great culture is essential for a cohesive and well run company in any industry. It’s fantastic to see a boss take this initiative to ensure his staff enjoy coming to work, thus making them more productive (which also benefits the company itself) A health workplace is a happy one!! The best anchors to build culture are the ones that are original, authentic, outside-the-box ways to make culture an integral and resonating part in team members’ lives. Culture anchors have to be original enough, so they can grow ‘inside’ and around the team members. Many companies fall a bit short on that. Particularly on originality. But in essence, culture needs to find authentic ways to merge work with life. And how a company approaches that part also sets the benchmark in how they allow and promote originality and creativity throughout the organization in regards to customers, products and services. How to build successful and productive businesses? Through engaged employees and teams that want to work for you, with you and across the wider business!

Many company culture issues are self created by companies, due to poor initial recruitment and on going training and development. Team development and creating company culture through support of fun activities which employees generate themselves instead of “mandatory fun” created activities is important. In other words the company culture is the personality of a company. Recruitment of the wrong people to jobs, because the company is desperate for a bum on a seat, this leads to so many issues down the track that affect the team as a whole. Additionally a poor training and mentioning program with little son of progression or idea of where staff are at by way of a review or just a simple chat about performance and opportunities, means companies often lose some of their best staff to competitors. People like to feel loved and valued in whatever industry. You don’t need a lot of money to make a great company culture, you just need people who are willing to go to effort to make work great for others. Deal with empathy towards Introverts: Recognize them unknowingly for job well done.
