I wanna cover how geo tagging in Instagram can help you keep track of where your moments of inspiration have taken place. Before I dive into this, I should point out that you’ll want to have location services enabled on your device. Otherwise, GPS geo tagging won’t work. So I’m going to assume that you have this functionality enabled. So because I have location services enabled on my device, when I take a photo, it automatically tags the photo with a geo location.

So if I tap on location tag, you can see it shows a pin exactly where that photo was taken. So if you ever forget, this is a nice way you can figure out where that photo was taken, through the services of Instagram. It also, on Instagram, shows any other photo, related to that same general area, that was taken, and on this map you can zoom in pretty far, all the way in, to exactly where that is, in terms of its location. Now if I tap on this map, it’ll even give you the ability of opening this up, Google or Apple Maps for example.

You can kind of keep track of your moments of inspiration.

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to my camera on my phone, I take pictures of everything. And I have a lot of cool photos I’ve taken when I’ve been traveling. Now, I don’t even remember where I took a particular photograph. But while you post it using instgram, you notice in the Add Location area, right underneath where it says “Add Location,” it lists out areas around the spot I might have took the picture. So I realize, by looking at this, that I had taken it in xyz place.

And now that shows up in our timeline, and the geo location is locked in because we have location services turned on on our device. So geo tagging photos isn’t just great for tracking your own locations. If you see an image someone else has posted in their Instagram account, and it inspires you, you can use the location link on the post to help figure out where they took the photograph. It’s a great way to map out your creative moments over time.
