Social Media Addiction

Long gone are the days when we relied on what we picked up from face to face interactions or other forms of exchange or knowledge sharing through conventional outlets. Whereas, social media addiction gulps a huge chunk of our productive time, the bone of contention should be about how to create a balance in patronage and not on how to forgo it entirely. If you have the time to actively manage your social media brand, then go for it. If you are only going to check your accounts and actively block people once a month then it’s probably not for you.

It’s abnormal to be addicted to anything, especially non-essential behavior consuming everyone. Do you consider walking, jogging and driving, look around trees, as scary stuff? Then you are drenched in social media addiction. You’re deluding yourself if you think that Twitter messages, posts and likes are a productive use of your time. If you’re serious about making an impact in the world, power down your smartphone, close your browser tabs, roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Social Media Balance:

What if all electricity and power grids go off, haywire, absolute electronic pandomania happens before our eyes. There’s certainly an argument for keeping social media usage in check, certainly for personal use - but everything in moderation has been baffling mankind since those Stone Age painters began etching buffalo. It is also almost impossible to know what people care about without social media. The social media has proven to be the premier medium for communication.

As you become more valuable to the marketplace, good things will find you.

There is a growing obsession with Social Media and there are still some downsides to its credibility. Social Media is fine as long as you do it on your own time and not comment on work topics. Social Media addiction is humor to change humanity. Take for instance the latest earthquake here in NZ. Twitter helped stay abreast of tsunami warnings and had clarity in regards to what was happening in the region.

Social Media for Business:

For business use, moderation is key anyway. Social Media platforms are tools. Used well, they can enrich your life and connect you to others you otherwise would not have. Misused or not under good self control, can become addictive, ruin real relationships, and waste a ton of time. Of course we all benefit from focused blocks of time for working, and from avoiding the trap of promoting yourself over just doing great work that deserves notice. If Social Media addiction is converted into useful work/business, even when you’re socializing it’s becomes just like professional networking at a live industry conference - still some business benefit.

Business owners and entrepreneurs can benefit so much from social media if they have a good plan and good execution. It won’t be a waste of time for them. As any marketing professional, it is extremely important to assess the behavior of the market. For a marketing professional the usual customers are attuned to several social media platforms, social media engagement allows us to analyze how they feel about our initiatives, and allows us to better help our audience.

Social Media Addition and its Downfalls:

Social media has proven to be capable of many end results. In some cases it keeps distant relationships alive and up to date with current activities for families and friends to witness and be involved in. In other cases it absolutely kills the creativity that resonates inside each individual. We believe mobile is and can be use as a gateway into conscious communication. Social media is not conscious… social media is lead by impulse that is controlled by the creators of that specific social media. As majority of human beings, control happens unconsciously as humans are unaware of the initial intent of why something was created.

The foundation to achievement and fulfillment, almost without exception, requires that you hone a useful craft and then apply it to things that people care about. This is more “bread and circuses.” A way to prevent one from accomplishing goals (while someone sells you something).  You see, you can easily be ignored even with your excellence in the craft you chose, if people do not know what value you can provide. It’s really working for fresher but for consultancy or senior management opportunities we need leadership in managerial communication. That could be any communication. Not social media.

Social Media Usage Advice:

Use social media in the best way for you and your situation and the responsibilities you have to others. All the time, some of the time, off & on, whatever works for you. Simple. If you get fired or laid off an some part of the reason was too much time on social, get a job on social media. As a professional Digital Marketer, it’s EXTREMELY important that you are able to represent your personal brand via SM platforms.

If you are not able to get your work ethic, core values, and passion for your work across through my branded profiles, then you are not an effective marketer. If you can’t represent yourself professionally, how can you accurately represent a company/brand? Our two cents is that choosing which social media to use and using it in a directed manner can be of great benefit. Depending on your propensity for distraction a written outline for tactical approach may be helpful. Anything can be used productively or pointlessly. You can’t blame social media if you can’t choose what to do online wisely.
