Asymmetric Visual Compensation of Balanced New Google Logo (Case Study)
Not everything must or should be geometric. It’s a visual compensation, the way Google made that G is a lot nicer than the geometric one. I don’t think everything should have perfectly geometric shape, maybe they know what they’re doing. Try make a font from scratch and study more about typography and soon you’ll understand it.

Google logo sparks ‘correct design’ debate. What are my thoughts? I think this quote is worth visiting, in the context of Google’s new logo:
If you look at the data, it’s a mess. The thickness is all over the place, nothing is identical. But I’ve resisted any attempt to clean it up, because then it wouldn’t be Meta any more, it would be a mechanical clone. And that’s the challenge for all of us — to create warmth in a digital world. Not many people can do it. You see a lot of stuff that looks great but simply doesn’t turn you on. It’s like making a song on a synthesizer. To make a drum machine sound good is really difficult — you might as well play real drums. We’re still analogue beings. Our brains and eyes are analogue. — Erik Spiekermann, on designing his font FF Meta
It’s about balance, not symmetry
You might be a nerd, but you are not a graphic designer if you call this a joke. It’s called Visual Compensation. This will look like a joke for all those so-called graphic designers. Simple is harder to design than complex. It takes design experience to identify all applications of the logo and make it versatile. There’s absolutely no way anyone without a college degree could had done this. Let’s not exaggerate its importance to business? The logo is the first thing someone sees when they look at a company. The logo of a company is comparable to the way you dress at a job interview. It is the first impression someone will have. Why you think graphic design is a career? Because the world is filled with idiots? Obviously not! It’s because this is a legitimately important profession to businesses. Don’t understate its importance
When companies “rebrand” they change their logos because they are trying to change how they are perceived. Every single product you use from Google has a logo to reflect that product that has been customary designed to fit in line with Google Search’s logo as Google’s main product. It’s evident that those who believe logos have little importance know little about business and the roll design plays in it. Apple doesn’t spend hundreds of millions on design because they’re idiots. Their design, both with their logos and their products creates a feel that one can now associate with that company. At the same time we also overvalue logos of successful companies, because they are successful. These companies could have had any type of logo and still be successful. Google has proven this with their previous logo (six letters in a nondescript font). The clue is that Google doesn’t need any enormous logo to be most used search engine. Logo is pretty marginal thing. It’s good, minimalism and material design inspired, but only good.
The newest Google logo has been making the rounds on the internet! Some say that this is a mistake by the Google design team, but is it? I love the balanced new Google logo design, but let’s not exaggerate its importance to business. On a final note, this balanced new Google logo change does fit in with Google overall design choices.
